+8.0 is an MVP season (think peak Dirk or peak Shaq) +10.0 is an all-time season (think peak Jordan or LeBron) (In the 2018-19 season, teams averaged around 100 possessions per 48 minute game.) A value of +5.0 means the team is 5 points per 100 possessions better with the player on the floor than with average production from another player. Because above-average players play more minutes, there are far more below-average players than above-average players in the league at any time. League average is defined as 0.0, meaning 0 points above average or below average. BPM does not take into account playing time - it is purely a rate stat! • I have no plans for a Firefox extension.
  • The extension is designed for hoops fans so please trust me on this. This is just how Chrome extensions work - I don’t track who uses the extension or what other sites they are visiting.
  • The extension requires access to your browsing data in order to work.
  • This can start to slow your browser down.
  • There’s a lot of JavaScript running on the page so I don’t recommend having multiple tabs open at the same time.
  • The extension also works for college basketball although some features are limited.

These possession-based numbers will also differ from NBA.com’s metrics because the NBA calculates possessions using a different formula - which they’re not 100% transparent about. This may be by design but to me it seemed like an oversight. This means team turnovers such as 5-second inbounds and 24 second shot clock violations are excluded from Basketball Reference’s pace numbers.

offensive rating) will vary from Basketball Reference’s numbers due to BR only counting turnovers which are attributed to individual players. Note that the possession-based team statistics shown above (i.e. True to his word, Arnovitz sent me delicious baked goods.
